Despite not winning a single team division, the combined PR Moose Milers Racing Team made an auspicious debut in the 2006 USATF New England Gran Prix Series by winning the overall title at the New Bedford Half Marathon on March 19, 2006 in the Whaling City. While USATF NE doesn't award a prize for the overall title, they do for the overall series champion on the basis of total points scored by all teams from the same running club. Under this criteria, the PR Moose Milers took first place with 88 points, followed by the Merrimack Valley Striders with 81 points, and the Central Mass Striders with 75 points.

The Male Seniors, Male Veterans, Female Masters, and Female Seniors Teams all finished 2nd in their respective divisions, while the Male Open and Male Masters Teams took 5th place, and the Female Open Team took 7th place. We were one of only three teams to field teams in all seven contested divisions.

Outstanding individual performances were turned in by Joann Mathews and Reno Stirrat who finished 2nd in the Female Masters and Male Seniors USATF Individual Championships, scoring 9 individual points each. Jessica Wheeler and Harry Carter won the 55-59 and 65-69 Age Groups respectively. Other individual Gran Prix scorers included Diane Gaglione with 7 points; Rick Stetson with 6 points; Deirdre Bird with 4 points; Katja Fox with 3 points; Jessica Wheeler with 3 points; and Harry Carter with 2 points. However, it was the great turnout by 47 PR Moose Milers that made the day. Many of us stayed after the race for the Whaling City's Fish Sandwiches and Fish Chowder; supplemented by Ma Raffa's Pizza, courtesy of the team and the Michael DeLuz Delivery Service.

The next race in the 2006 USATF New England Gran Prix is the Little Rhody 5K in Lincoln, Rhode Island on June 4, 2006. We will be using the prize money won in the New Bedford Half Marathon to pay the entry fee for all PR Moose Milers who run in the Little Rhody 5K --- provided you get your entry into the Team Manager by the entry deadline which will be posted on this site and in our newsletter by April 15, 2006. Our official race entry policy will be published on the Schedule page as soon as we finalize the last few details.
