The Moose Milers & Marathoners returned to the Mount Washington Road Race 2004 in force - and determined to improve upon last year's performances. The weather was a mixed bag as comfortable temperatures and moderate rain at the start made the first 5 miles easy compared to the last 2+ miles when the wind, pelting rain, and low visibility slowed down the pace every runner in the field. Bruce Bridgham led the way in a new Moose Milers & Marathoners course record of 1:10:39. Bruce led both the Male Open and Male Masters Teams to 2nd Place finishes. Bonnie Ritchotte and Dawn Heinrich led the Female Open and Female Masters Teams to 4th Place finishes- with the Female Master Team missing 3rd place by a mere 9 seconds! The highlight of the day was Keith Woodward leading Len Hall, Rich Stockdale, Trevor Ward, and Damian Rowe as they smashed the Male Senior's Course Record by over 12 minutes. The Male Masters Team also broke the existing course record by over 15 minutes - but were eclipsed by the Coastal Athletic Association team. Zach Emerson won the Junior Division title, while Keith Woodward was runner-up in the Senior Division. Bruce Bridgham took 3rd place in the age-graded Masters Division. Most important of all, the Male Open, Male Masters, Male Seniors, and Female Open teams secured lottery bypasses for the 2005 Mount Washington Road Race. Securing bypasses were Bruce Bridgham, David Herr, Louis Bregou, Zach Emerson, Thompson Parker, Keith Woodward, Mark Pitts, Brian Stevens, Dan Knaul, Len Hall, Rich Stockdale, Trevor Ward, Damian Rowe, Bonnie Ritchotte, Carla Chandler, and Dawn Heinrich. Franny Haney also has a bypass after dropping out of the field prior to June 1st. This gives us 18 runners already guaranteed entry into the 2005 race! |

Many team races, such as the Mill Cities Relay and the Whaling City Team Challenge 2003, score an overall team champion by awarding the teams in each division one point for each team they beat in their division and then add up the points from each team to crown an overall champion. The Mount Washington Road Race does not do this. But.....if they did, the Moose Milers & Marathoners would be the overall champions based on both our strength and our depth. We would have scored 60 points, followed by the Cambridge Sports Union with 57 points, and the White Mountain Milers with 53 points. |
