FAQs (frequently Asked Questions)
Is trail running bad for my ankles or knees?
The Moose On The Run 10 Mile Trail Relay is run on well-groomed trails that have been used by the Moose Milers & Marathoners and the Gate City Striders for many years. The main trails which are used for this race are very flat, with very few rocks, roots or other obstacles. (The course is moderately hilly.) Running on them is actually safer than running on the roads or a track as they are softer and more forgiving to your joints. True trail running on ungroomed trails might be a little more stressful than running on the roads or a track, but this race is not.
Will I be able to run faster on the trails or will they slow me down?
Running on trails with the soft dirt and sand below your feet will slow you down a little bit. You should be able to run your 2.5 Mile leg at about the same pace or within 5 - 10 seconds of your 5K road race pace.
What if one of our team members drops out at the last minute?
If you find a replacement, do so. Notify us ASAP so we can update your registration, and if necessary, adjust your division. If you cannot find a replacement, we allow teams of 3 runners to accomodate this scenario. Just have one of your runners handle 2 legs. They just cannot run their legs consecutively. Again you must notify us of the change.
Why the limit of 500 runners?
The limit is imposed on us by the available parking at Stellos Stadium and our desire to keep the first year of the race manageable. We may increase the limit in future years depending upon the popularity of the race. We do have additional spots reserved for our own teams and youth teams (14 & under).
We have 3 women and 1 man on our team. What division do we race in?
4 Men + 0 Women = Male Team
3 Men + 1 Woman = Male Team
2 Men + 2 Women = Mixed Team
1 Man + 3 Women = Mixed Team
0 Men + 4 Women = Female Team
I don't drink. Can I get an alternate prize if my team wins?
I assume that you don't drink beer, otherwise you would have died of dehydration long ago. Unfortunately we do not offer 'alternate' prizes, so you'll have to drink water, juice, or soda out of your beer mug. Or just stick it on your trophy shelf.
